The Dallas Mavericks wrapped up their two-game preseason series against the Houston Rockets in Macao, China, with a decisive 132-115 victory on October 11, 2026. This win came two days after a 135-117 loss to the same opponent, splitting the international exhibition set. The games provided an early look at new head coach Dusty May's squad and featured notable performances from veteran Kyrie Irving and rookie Cooper Flagg.
The Mavericks' trip to Macao was a tale of two very different results. In the first game on October 9, Houston's offense proved too much, as the Rockets secured a 135-117 win. They flipped the script with a 132-115 victory. Rookie sensation Cooper Flagg was a consistent bright spot, throwing down a powerful dunk and making hustle plays throughout the contests. Daniel Gafford battled inside, while Naji Marshall facilitated ball movement from the perimeter.
Preseason results aren't the primary focus, but these games in Macao served a vital purpose. They marked the first live action for Kyrie Irving since March 2025, a significant step for the star guard. It was also the first chance for fans and the coaching staff to see top draft pick Cooper Flagg compete against NBA-level talent in a Mavericks uniform. His athleticism and energy were on full display. For Coach Dusty May, these contests were invaluable for evaluating rotations and player combinations ahead of the real season. The team's ability to adjust and secure a convincing win after a tough loss is a positive sign of resilience.
With the international trip concluded, the Dallas Mavericks return home to continue their preseason schedule. Their next test is a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans at the American Airlines Center on October 14. This will be the team's first stateside preseason game and another opportunity to refine systems before the regular season tips off. The focus now shifts to building cohesion and ensuring the roster is healthy and ready for the long NBA campaign ahead.
